During the 1990s my work became abstract almost overnight but the most enduring pieces belonged to series of works called “Ish.” Automatic drawings in small journals were the inspiration for these paintings and prints. The name “Ish” comes from the fact that when the first ones were on the studio wall a colleague happened to stop in and said they looked “yo-yoish”.

I also made paper during this time. The paper for any drawing, print, or painting done on “artist-made paper” was done at this time.
