The selected paintings here grew out of the series called Elegy for Heaven. For these I have changed the series to Songs and Dances (for Heaven). The titles are selected at random from characters (both major and minor) in Shakespeare’s plays.
My process remains grounded in automatism. This is an attempt to shut down my thinking and get out of my own way. This results in works that can seem chaotic but also reflect, what to me is the natural disorder of our world. I layer strokes and colors to add depth and complexity.
A note: Some of the paintings were originally started as early 1998 and I started reworking early in 2016 therefore you may see two signatures and years. Others are new as of 2016.
