When I started working in 1990s with psychic automatism and what I now call automatic gesture drawings I came up with an image of a disc hanging precariously from a thread. I struggled with a name for the object / series until a colleague mentioned they looked yo-yoish. I dropped the yo-yo part but keep the ish because I felt they, the objects, had a deeper meaning.

I was am also of the mind that viewers of art should come to their own own conclusions and understandings about what they looking at. Sometimes because I am creatively restless or if I think I have run through all manner of possible variations of a series I will set the series aside and move onto the next thing. Because of that I have not, since 2000 made any more of the series but the source, automatic gestural drawing, continues to inform much of  my work.
